Has your little one ever told you to “shhh” or “Stop” when you are singing to him/her?

Well I’m here to tell you that this happens….no matter who you are, how you sing, how you sound–if you’re ready to try out for American Idol or just a shower singer…this can happen!! It has happened to me with all three of my children.

I’ve heard it so often –“My child doesn’t like my voice,” “My kid doesn’t want me to sing to him, he things I’m a terrible singer,” and so on. I’m here to tell you it’s not true! Here’s why:

  1. When a child finds their voice, they LOVE to have control and say “no”.
  2. Self-expression is normal–they are voicing what they may need in the moment (maybe they don’t like that certain song, maybe they just want silence, maybe it is just too stimulating at the moment).
  3. It is fun way to communicate–they may think it is funny, interesting, or amazing that you listen to them and they can communicate this way.

So please, just keep singing to your children. :)
