For the past 6 years, I have served on the state task force to advocate for music therapy in Ohio. The task force as been advocating for a licensure for music therapists in Ohio, which would expand access of music therapy services, expand jobs for music therapists, and provide title protection.

On January 31st, 2018 I visited the Ohio Statehouse with 3 other music therapists and met with multiple Senators and Representatives to share stories about the impact of music therapy and the need for music therapy licensure.

We are dedicated to making sure people can receive music therapy services if they need it and to ensuring that people are getting high quality music therapy services from a qualified healthcare professional.

Music is a powerful entity that can change us in so many ways, on so many levels. There are over 350 Board Certified Music Therapists in Ohio, working in all the major hospitals in the state, school systems, private practices, and other healthcare/educational agencies. Music therapists work with some of the most vulnerable populations and we are trained (with over 1200 clinical hours) on the use of music and music experiences to help people achieve health and wellness goals.

In 2018 we will be advocating and educating to hopefully pass a bill securing licensure for music therapists in Ohio!
