I am always honored and privileged to share musical experiences with people who value music and the work it does in our lives. Elmwood Assisted Living of New Bremen hosted Maureen McGovern and Michael Shirtz in a musical journey for inspiration, peace, and comfort. Maureen is an artist advocate for music therapy through the American Music Therapy Association and is currently a Board Member of Medicine and the Arts/Humanism in Medicine at the Ohio State University College of Medicine.
Maureen promotes music therapy and believes in the power of music and the science behind it. During this wonderful day, Maureen and Michael observed a music therapy session led by Brittany Scheer, MT-BC, performed music for an extensive crowd of residents and supporters, and spent time sharing stories and advocating for music therapy with several music therapists, decision makers, and government officials.
It was fantastic to share stories of how music has inspired us and others. Maureen’s passion for music as a way to reach people and communicate something larger is so apparent. I was thrilled to have this opportunity!
